This week I was at Residential Design and Construction 2010 at Boston’s Seaport World Trade Center. Residential Design and Construction is an event for all types of residential building professionals including designers, architects and builders. I participated in two seminars and was fortunate to present with an incredible group of industry leaders.
At the first presentation “Custom Residential Projects in the Urban Setting” I worked with Allison Iantosca of F.H. Perry Builder and Douglas Dick of LDa Architecture & Interiors . The three of us spoke about the unique challenges of renovating in an urban setting and how we tackled these challenges to create spectacular high-end homes for our clients. My talk concentrated on the various challenges of working in a high rise building. Building access, scheduling, storage, clean up and renovation limitations are all challenging in an urban setting . In addition, it is extremely important to maintain excellent relationships with management and neighbors throughout the process.
As I’ve written on this blog before, I see true value in designing beautiful luxury bathrooms. At the seminar “Out of the Shadows and into the Spotlight: How our Bathrooms have taken Center Stage” I was on a panel with Robin Brenner of Billie Brenner, Jon Spector of Dornbrachtand Jocelyn Hutt of DRS and Associates that explored the process of designing high end bathrooms, selecting materials to complement these spaces and seeing these projects through to successful completion. I used a series of before and after shots to illustrate the design process, material selections and how to integrate function and aesthetics in the process of creating wonderful bathrooms.
