Five Favorites – Cabinet Hardware

Isn’t it interesting that sometimes the last item to be installed in a kitchen or bath renovation often has the most impact? Even more interesting is the fact that this item most often represents a small portion of the total budget. I’m talking about cabinet hardware. I know it may sound cliche to say that “hardware is like jewelry,” but it is really true. This small detail can completely change the look of a kitchen or bath.

For example, if you have simple shaker style cabinetry and install large contemporary stainless steel handles, the kitchen will have a modern aesthetic. Switch that hardware out for rubbed bronze knobs, and the decor goes in the opposite design direction.

Bottom line: hardware is important, and you should take as much time selecting your cabinet hardware as you would your lighting or appliances. But, selecting hardware isn’t just about aesthetics. Make sure that the hardware feels good to the touch and feels comfortable when opening drawers and doors. You won’t be happy with the hardware if it pinches your fingers every time you grab a spatula!

One particular source that I really like is Schaub and Company; they offer excellent quality and fantastic range of styles. Here are my five favorites:
