Pinterest – Jump in and Join the Fun!

Have you heard about Pinterest? It is now one of the web’s top ten social networks. It seems that people are falling into two categories these days – pinners and non-pinners. The pinners are the people who go to work with blurry eyes and visions of a bathroom renovation in their head; the non-pinners are wondering what the fuss is all about!!   There is a reason Pinterest has taken the web by storm. The site is fun, engaging and a great creative outlet.     The basics to get you started Pinterest is considered invitation-only, but you can request an invite at pinterest.com. An invitation should be sent to you within a few days. Once you’ve logged in, just jump in and start searching, creating boards and pinning.
  • Pin: A pin is simply “an image added to Pinterest,” whether from the web or uploaded from your own files.
  • Repin: Once an image is pinned, it can then be repinned by other Pinterest users onto their boards. This is how content spreads virally.
  • Board: This is your virtual bulletin board and where your pins live. You can create boards for different subjects depending on your interests. Foodies share recipes on their boards, while fashionistas share the latest Manolos!
I am warning you now . . . Pinterest IS addictive. It’s easy to fall into the endless rabbit hole of design and ideas. There is a bit of voyeurism as well. Once you stumble across some interesting pinboards, you can’t help wondering about the person behind the boards!   Take note of the new “Pin It” buttons I have added to the blog. It makes it easy to share photos of rooms you love with the click of the button. And, of course, be sure to take a look at my pinboards!

    Hi Leslie,
Great post on Pinterest. Did you know there’s another similar pinning site designed just for interior designers but it is geared towards being able to sell your design work? It’s called Olio Board http://olioboard.com/ I heard about it from Leslie Carothers. Check it out…
    Best wishes for continued success.
